Want a mentor to help you navigate physics, college, and life in general? Would you like to share your hard-earned experience with someone earlier in their career? If you answered yes to either of these questions, the Physics Mentoring Program is for YOU! Mentors and mentees are wanted!
The UCSC Physics Mentoring Program pairs students with others from higher divisions to exchange personal and career enrichment and foster community.
- We believe in the importance of support networks in the pathway to success, especially for those belonging to underrepresented communities in STEM. Our goal is to provide these connections by giving students the chance to seek insight from those who are farther along in their career. Please note, the mentor role is NOT to be an academic tutor. Instead, mentors will share experiential insight and support their mentee’s journey in physics, in college, and in life.
- Mentoring is available for both undergrads and grads. Students will be mentored by other students from a higher educational level.
- The mentoring groups commit for the academic year to meet regularly at their convenience.
- No prior experience needed. Support and resources will be provided to mentors.
- The Mentoring Program will also organize a couple of events per quarter (career workshops, panels, socials…) to promote the interaction between all participants.
